About the course

Active Shooter in the Workplace Class is a training program designed to teach individuals how to respond in the event of an active shooter situation in the workplace. The class covers the following topics:

  1. Understanding the threat: An overview of the statistics and patterns of active shooter incidents in the workplace and the motivations behind them.
  2. Workplace specific survival strategies: An explanation of the key strategies for surviving an active shooter situation in the workplace, including the best practices for hiding, evacuating, and fighting back.
  3. Workplace specific response planning: A discussion of the steps that employers and employees can take to prepare for an active shooter incident, including conducting risk assessments, developing emergency response plans, and conducting drills.
  4. Emergency communications: An overview of the best practices for communicating during an active shooter incident, including the use of emergency alerts, alarms, and intercom systems.
  5. Law enforcement response: An overview of the role of law enforcement in responding to active shooter incidents in the workplace, including the use of SWAT teams, crisis negotiation teams, and other specialized units.
  6. Post-incident recovery: A discussion of the support and resources available to individuals and organizations following an active shooter incident, including counseling services and victim support programs.

The goal of the class is to provide individuals and organizations with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively and safely in the event of an active shooter incident in the workplace and to increase their chances of survival. The class is taught by law enforcement and workplace safety professionals and may include simulations and drills to reinforce the training.
